As part of our work on a European-level, The Rural Hub participates in Erasmus+ funded initiatives which aim to address issues affecting rural communities; such as a need for increased digital literacy of residents, the challenge of retraining older employees approaching retirement age, the importance of integrating migrant communities in all aspects of social and civic life and the need to support youth entrepreneurship as a means of counteracting high levels of rural depopulation. The Family Circle Erasmus+ project aims to raise awareness and increase the understanding of the circular economy. Consumers are, and will continue to be, the driving force controlling the market and can be extremely influential in the development of a circular economy in Europe.

We are passionate about the family learning approach and believe that the family is the perfect setting to launch a dynamic informal educational campaign for the circular economy concept. To do this, we will create a variety of fun and interactive resources to engage all age groups in the family (Comic Strips, Digital Breakouts, and WebQuests), and will develop a guide for parents to help them support this learning in the home.

The Erasmus+ INFLUENCERS project aims to help young people living with a disability or long-term health condition to develop their own online social enterprise.

We will work to create a bespoke training programme helping young people to understand social entrepreneurship and how an online social media business works.

The partnership will also focus on building social media and digital literacy in order to help safeguard young online social entrepreneurs against online threats.

The INFLUENCERS project will also provide in-service training for youth worker professionals, making them aware of these opportunities and giving them the tools to show others how to benefit from them.

The Erasmus+ Artskul project proposes an innovative new service offering that uses performance art disciplines including; music, drama and storytelling to build a suite of embedded learning educations resources to build the key transversal skills of low skilled adults.

In a pedagogical context, the performing arts of storytelling, drama and music have faded into the background and are rarely now considered as appropriate techniques for key competence building.

However, in the current context, with the low levels of literacy and numeracy within the marginalised adult population, activities like storytelling, drama and music workshops could be considered as effective techniques to help overcome social and cultural barriers and build key competences among the marginalised adult communities.

With this intention the Artskul project will develop a compendium of resources to support the reintegration of adults through using a toolkit of embedded resources to build the basic skills as well as a digital training framework to support adults to record the storytelling, drama and music performances that emerge as a result of their engagement during the project life cycle.

Europe faces a real and ongoing threat from violent extremism. A small minority of groups continue to present false arguments and reasoning that seek to justify attacks on innocent civilians. Member states are being urged to take measures to prevent extremist voices and messages reaching those who are most vulnerable to these radical views.

There is a perception that those at risk of radicalisation have a low level of education and would generally fit the classification of disadvantaged young people, but extensive research indicates that the demographics in relation to religion, age, sex, education and financial backgrounds vary. What has been found is that many become radicalized in response to emotive messages and visuals and through frustration or outrage at perceived injustice or inequality.

The aim of the Erasmus+ HYPER project is to design and produce a full suite of educational resources that show the process or radicalisation in action. These resources will focus on demonstrating how radicalism can happen on the most popular digital and social media platforms where today’s young people hang out, and where many are at their most vulnerable.

The suite of simulation resources will act as a gateway to an online learning environment where a wide range of suitable and appropriate training resources will be provided. To accompany these simulation resources the project consortium will develop a peer training programme for young people interested in being credible voices against radical extremist rhetoric and actions.

Education is one of the key intervention tools available to EU Member States to counteract the growth of radicalisation, and front-line youth workers who engage with a wide cross-section of young people in a variety of formal , in-formal and non-formal settings are the most appropriate individuals to lead this fight.

To achieve this aim, BizMiz will provide a bespoke entrepreneurship curriculum.

The focus of the Erasmus+ eMysteries project is to encourage young people to read and improve their literacy.

In order to gain the interest of young people, the eMysteries project will create a mobile friendly website that will be fun and interactive for its users. It will be through this site that young adults will be able to create their own detective mystery stories, read and change the endings of stories written by others.

Project partners will also create a Teacher Toolbox - a how-to guide for teachers to help their students to write detective stories.

The Erasmus+ Efficient Parenting project aims to build the competencies of parents to be more resilient and efficient in their role as parents, allowing them to increase their children's, as well as their own wellbeing.

Partners will develop innovative practices and exchange knowledge that will raise parents’ awareness, as well as providing them with appropriate knowledge, skills and competences on delivery quality parenting. To do this, the project will focus on creating a guide and supporting resources for parents, which will be presented in an interactive online environment.

Parents will participate in blended learning sessions and will be trained to use the newly developed skills in their daily practice.

Generation Z, those born after 1995 is starting to grow up, with the oldest members of the cohort now approaching 21 years old. Generation Z, is more likely to value independence and therefore is poised to become the most entrepreneurial generation ever. Nowadays, social media has become pervasive in empowering young Europeans in their educational, academic and professional life, and Gen Z is the first generation to innately understand the true power of social media.

To this end, the Erasmus+ Gen-Z project, aims to join efforts for empowering this generation to become social media entrepreneurs, and at the same time to develop their key competences and employability skills.

An added value of this project will be to enable linking, where Gen-Z beneficiaries will be able to support each other’s businesses with their own ability to use social media.

In the past few years we’ve observed a rapidly growing number of immigrants in most of Europe’s countries. The common problem is that, even though most can find a decent job, or are provided financial help by the host country, migrants are usually in one way or another isolated from their new society. Sometimes it is because of a cultural or language barrier, sometimes it is because the ongoing European economic crisis has made some people become more xenophobic and conservative.

So how can immigrant youth integrate and contribute to their local communities? That is exactly the reason why the Erasmus+ EXEMPLAR project is taking place.

Its aim is to support migrants to develop an appreciation of their own heritage and of the cultural heritage of their host country. We want to enable young migrants to become integration leaders guiding other migrants all over Europe to integrate with their local community and overcome barriers.

Often brilliant migrant specialists can’t work in their field because of insufficient fluency or by not having enough contacts. This can create a real risk of social exclusion and isolation.

Together with six European partners we want to build the necessary bridging capital between host and migrant communities. Through developing an awareness of European heritage and values, we will be able to achieve social cohesion among migrant and host communities Training a cohort of young migrants to lead the integration process symbolises a genuine bottom-up approach to migrant integration.

The GAME-CHANGER project aims to support young people to develop their entrepreneurial attitudes, competences and capacities. By using a challenge-based learning approach to working with young people across Europe, we aim to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs. The project team will develop a suite of 30 WebQuest challenges, that are linked to the EntreComp framework, seeking to build the entrepreneurial capacity of young people in the areas of resources mobilization and utilisation, motivating others to support a business idea, spotting opportunities and valuing ideas and bringing ideas to action. Through these WebQuest challenges, young people will also develop key transversal skills that they will need to be successful in the field of entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship.

The overall aim of the project is to simultaneously address the issue of an ageing population and the challenge of migrant integration.

On one hand, the project is based on the fact that many older people have valuable skills and experience built over their lifetime and research into active ageing clearly shows that keeping these older members of our community active brings a significant benefits to both individuals concerned and wider society.

While on the other hand, as the ethnic make-up of the population is changing adding considerable diversity, there are also significant language, social and cultural barriers that need to be overcome for these population to successfully integrate. In that respect, the growing senior citizen population can play a major role in helping to overcome these obstacles.

To this end, the project will produce interactive adult education resources, innovative approaches for migrant integration; and active ageing opportunities for senior citizens

The Traces Erasmus+ project is aiming to help young people to manage their digital and social media lives, and to harness new opportunities presented to them through social media.

iGuide aims to support low-skilled workers and those in vulnerable employment to develop the core skills necessary to plan and manage their own career.

Digital and social media literacy training is necessary to help young people to make the most out of online opportunities, build skills, careers and relationships in an effective but also safe manner. To achieve this, we will develop a number of digital media resources that will outline the key concepts in digital and social media. These digital literacy resources will be shared on an interactive online platform, where learners can freely access the materials and track the progress of their learning.

Project partners will also work together to create an in-service handbook, that will enhance the continuous professional development of youth workers and youth professionals in the field of digital and social media literacy.

The DigitALAD project will provide to adult educators Training Programme that will support them in advancing their digital skills, e- learning space with gamified learning resources and an impact assessment study corelated to training opportunities and evaluation of impact of the project on adult educators and learners.

83% of Europeans believe that fake news is a threat to democracy. Because of this The Rural Hub have teamed up with six other European partners to build a revolutionary community media framework as part of the Erasmus+ Wires Crossed project. Our aim is to equip local communities with all the knowledge, skills and competences to develop, manage and maintain a comprehensive media service for local residents.

Make no mistake ‘fake news’ is a real issue. It is a proven technique that far-right and far-left media outlets, radical groups like ISIS and populist movements use to push their political and social agenda. It is not being spread sporadically by individuals, it is a highly sophisticated global mechanism that has been designed to use the internet and media channels to wage information warfare. Although the concept of propaganda is well established, the difference now is the pervasiveness, widespread accessibility and the capacity of even small groups to wage significant media campaigns with limited resources.

Investing in community media had been proven to enrich democratic processes, encourage community cohesion and increase civic engagement of all cohorts of society. WIRES-CROSSED aims to harness the potential of available digital and social media platforms to give a voice back to local communities and to promote community cohesion in tackling the ‘fake news’ epidemic.

It is a commonly experienced oddity that those who could benefit most from lifelong learning are those least likely to engage. One in four adults between 25-64 years of age in the EU have not completed any formal education beyond secondary school. That is 70 million people. 20 million of which left the education system with no more than a primary education.

The reasons for this are varied but the fact remains that those who comprise this group are the least likely to re-enter educational programmes. Because of this one in five adults have low literacy and numeracy skills, and almost one in three have low computer skills.

The Rural Hub believe this bares no reflection on the capability or talents of such individuals and the solution is to reconsider all aspects of standard adult education to make learning inviting on an individual level.

In conjunction with four other European partners we have decided to launch ELEVATION, a, Erasmus+ project to raise the skills of adults on the margins of lifelong learning through information campaigns, bite-sized learning materials and a community festival.

Through art, culture, digital and social media, sport and hobbies we will promote engagement in adult learning and empower individuals to maximize their life potential and achieve greater social inclusion; but above all, we will help them discover the joy in lifelong learning.

Peer leadership to promote positive mental health among marginalised - Safe Space

The Safe Space project aims to develop and pilot a new approach to supporting young people to overcome their mental health issues and to develop healthier habits and behaviours. Through a bespoke peer leadership programme, the project team will support local youth leaders to become advocates of positive mental health among their peers. The chances of success for any proposed intervention can be significantly increased if the positive mental health message is delivered by a credible voice from within the youth community. The aim of the Safe Space project is to design and produce a full suite of educational resources that will support prevention and early intervention activities on a local level. These resources will focus on understanding what causes and affects ill mental health, what protective and risk factors can determine a young person’s mental health and how young people can support their peers with local mental health promotion campaign.
